What affects the price
We price honestly, and that means the from price is a starting point rather than a flat rate. Here's what actually moves the figure.
Size and breed. A Toy Poodle is quicker to wash, dry and clip than a Standard Poodle or a Borzoi — bigger dogs simply take more time, more shampoo and more drying, so they sit higher within the range.
Coat type. A short, single coat dries fast and clips evenly. Curly, double and long silky coats take longer at every stage — washing, drying right down to the skin, brushing out and styling.
Coat condition. This is the biggest one. A well-brushed coat is straightforward work. A matted coat is slow, careful work that has to be done gently so it doesn't hurt your pet or damage the skin underneath. A dog that comes in badly matted takes considerably longer, and the price reflects that.
Time since the last groom. A dog groomed every six to eight weeks is quick and predictable. Leave it six months and the coat is overgrown, compacted and often matted underneath — that's a bigger job, not a standard groom.
How your pet handles it. A pet who settles on the table is quicker than one who needs frequent breaks and reassurance. We'll never rush a nervous animal — we'd rather take the time, and sometimes that time affects the price.

- Full blow dry and brush out
- Full clip or hand-scissor finish to your chosen length
- Nails trimmed, including dew claws
- Ears cleaned and checked
- Hygiene trim: sanitary area, pads and around the eyes
Getting an accurate quote
Call or text for a quick quote. If texting, include your pet's breed, temperament and any health notes so we can give you an accurate price.
Breed tells us the size and coat type we're working with. Temperament tells us whether your pet will settle or need extra time and breaks. Health notes — skin conditions, sore joints, medication, anything like that — tell us where we need to be careful and whether the groom will take longer. With those three things we can give you a figure that won't change on the day.
Pricing FAQs
Do you groom matted dogs?
Yes. We'll brush out light matting as part of the groom. With more severe matting, we usually clip the coat short because brushing it out would hurt the dog and can damage the skin underneath. Badly matted coats take considerably longer to work through, so the price will be higher. We'll talk you through it before we start.
How long does a full groom take?
A full groom usually takes around an hour, though it can take longer depending on your dog's size, coat condition and how they settle on the day. We'd rather take the time and do it properly than rush your dog through. We'll give you a call as soon as your dog is ready to collect, and if anything comes up while we're working we'll ring you there and then rather than leave it as a surprise at pick-up.
