A bath and a proper dry, without the haircut. Your pet is washed with a gentle, neutral shampoo that suits all coat types, rinsed thoroughly, then dried and brushed out so the coat lies flat and stays that way. Drying is the part owners cannot easily replicate at home — a towel-dried coat holds damp at the root, and damp undercoat is what becomes matting a fortnight later.

It is the ideal halfway service. If your dog has rolled in something, has been swimming in the canal, is halfway between full grooms and starting to look scruffy, or simply smells like a dog, a wash and dry sorts it in under an hour for most sizes. It is also a good option for short-coated breeds who never need clipping but still benefit from a deep clean and a de-shed with the dryer.

Ears get overlooked until there is a problem. We clean the visible part of the ear canal with a proper ear solution and cotton pads, remove wax build-up, and tidy excess hair around the opening so air can circulate. We never poke anything deep into the canal — that is a job for a vet with the right instrument.

Breeds with heavy drop ears or hairy canals are the ones that need it most: Cockapoos, Spaniels, Poodles, Bichons, Basset Hounds and Shih Tzus. Warm, closed, hairy ears trap moisture, and moisture is what yeast and bacteria want. Dogs who swim regularly are in the same category. Every four to eight weeks is sensible for those breeds; less often for upright, open ears.

While we clean we look and smell. Redness, dark discharge, a yeasty odour, heat, or a dog who flinches when we touch the ear all point to an infection, and if we see any of that we stop and tell you to see your vet. Ear cleaning is maintenance, not treatment. It is included as standard in a full groom.

A hygiene trim tidies the areas that cause trouble when they get long: the sanitary area front and back, the fur between the pads and around the feet, the tummy line, and the hair around the eyes and mouth. It is a quick, targeted trim rather than a restyle — nothing about the overall shape of the coat changes.

It is the single most useful thing you can book between grooms. Long fur around the rear traps mess and quickly becomes sore, fur between the pads picks up grit and grass seeds and makes dogs slip on hard floors, and hair growing into the eyes causes constant watering and staining. Owners of Shih Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, Cockapoos, Poodles and long-haired cats often come in for this alone every three to four weeks.
